Axl Rose's American Music Award presented to Guns N' Roses as Favorite Heavy Metal / Hard Rock Artist at the 1992 ceremony. Axl Rose gifted the AMA to his backup vocalist and personal assistant after reportedly using it as a doorstop. Rose notoriously harbors a disdain for award ceremonies and recently declined induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Award plate on the base reads, ''Favorite Artist / Heavy Metal/Hard Rock / GUNS N' ROSES / 1991''. GN'R won the award for their dual albums ''Use Your Illusion I'' and ''Use Your Illusion II''. Such GN'R hits as ''November Rain'', ''Don't Cry'' and ''Knockin' On Heaven's Door'' came from these records, which together have sold over fourteen million copies. Unlike the Grammy's, which are determined by music industry insiders, the American Music Awards are based on record sales, airplay and video viewing. Pyramid-shaped lucite award is mounted to a black square base, measuring 14.25'' in height and 4.75'' across. Abrasions to base and a quarter-sized area of irregularity to lucite at the bottom right corner of the pyramid, else very good. With notarized signature and LOA from the backup singer.
