Three-time World Champion figure skater Peggy Fleming signed ice skate. Fleming was also the Ladies Singles gold medalist at the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble, France; hers was the only gold medal won by the U.S. team that year. In 1961 the entire U.S. figure skating team, including an early coach of Fleming's, all perished in the Sabena Flight 548 plane crash. Fleming's Olympic victory on the heels of that tragedy served to usher in a promising new era for the U.S. in skating. Skate is signed, ''Peggy / Fleming / 1968 / Olympics'' in gold felt tip and mounted to a wooden display. A full-color USA Olympic logo metal piece is affixed to the panel above the skate and a plaque on the base reads, ''Peggy Fleming / 1968 Olympic Gold Medal Champion / 2003 Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence Dinner Ball''. Fleming was selected as the sole honoree at the annual Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence Dinner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Left foot Glacier 220 brand skate faces left and is engraved, ''9 2/3'' on the blade. Light smudge to the right of inscription, else fine. With a COA from Vince Lombardi Charitable Funds, Inc.
