Heavy 18-pound cannonball found at the strategic battle fort at Lake Champlain in upstate New York, Fort Ticonderoga. Cannonball is expertly dated to either the French and Indian War or the Revolutionary War, as both wars had battles at Ticonderoga. Cannonball weighs 18.5'' pounds with a 16'' circumference. Includes a letter of authenticity on Fort Mount Hope letterhead, dated 15 October 1971 by Carroll Lonergan, the director of Fort Mount Hope, a nearby fort also in Ticonderoga. Letter reads, ''This is to certify that this [can]non ball was found on the grounds of Fort Ticonderoga about the year 1928 by one 'Gyp' Blood, who had one of the...metal locators...is of the pe[riod of] the French and Indian or Revolutionary War.'' Cannonball has expected wear and discoloration, but is fully intact.
