Original vest owned and worn by author Truman Capote at the young age of 23, depicted in a famous photo which appeared on the dustjacket of his first book, ''Other Voices, Other Rooms,'' published by Random House in 1948. Though the book was critiqued with high regard, becoming a ''New York Times'' bestseller for 9 weeks, it was this photo that caused a media tizzy as it depicted Capote in what was then considered a subversive pose, lounging on a chair. The photo, taken by Harold Halma, was used in all of Random House's promotional material, displayed in bookstore windows and newspaper ads, propelling the young author into the limelight as a public figure which followed him the rest of his career. Blue-and-white-checkered vest has a few small holes to navy lining, else near fine. Also includes a portion of the dustjacket removed from the ''Other Voices, Other Rooms'' book. Vest is from the estate of Joseph Faulk, who was Capote's first cousin. With provenance from Bonhams.
