Dated July 1955, the year of his retirement as British Prime Minister, Churchill writes on Chartwell, Westerham, Kent stationery: ''...I hope this...will...encourage among the boys a high enjoyment of our English language...If you wish, I would be pleased to sign the first prize to be presented, but I could not undertake to do this annually...Winston Churchill''. Mounted to a pliable paper board. Toning, faint creasing and a miniscule tear to the right lower edge. Measures 7.25'' x 9''. Very good condition.
