William Taft typed letter signed on Supreme Court stationery, as Chief Justice, to friend Edward Bok. Dated 10 December 1923, letter reads, ''The details of the incident about [South African Prime Minister] Smuts I do not remember, although I recall that in some way we tried to get him. I shall forward your letter to [University of Michigan] President [James Burrill] Angell to see what he thinks about it...'' Bold signature in dark black ink. Single page letter measures 8'' x 10.5'', in very good condition.
