President Jimmy Carter signed and inscribed official White House photo to Margaret McNamara, dated 16 January 1981, the day she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. McNamara founded the ''Reading is Fundamental'' organization and was awarded the prestigious medal for her work in the organization. Carter inscribes the photo in black marker, ''To Margaret Craig McNamara, with admiration & congratulations - Jimmy Carter / 1-81''. With an ''Official Photograph. The White House / 16 Ja 81'' stamp to verso. Color half-matte photo measures 8'' x 10'' with minor toning throughout, else fine.
