Autograph letter signed by Confederate Robert M. Rucker of the 2nd Tennessee Infantry, dated 28 September 1864. Rucker writes to his mother of receiving her ''flag of truce'' letter, meaning delivered by blockade runner, and writes about the condition of numerous soldiers from his hometown. In part: ''...Reese was severely wounded in the head in the last fight but is well and back with us now. Col. Robinson was wounded in the same engagement - 'Jonesboro' in the hip, will be crippled hereafter I am afraid. Tell Sophie Mr. B who was wnd [wounded] on the 20 of July, near Atlanta, in the back of the neck...is back with his regt Mr. B who was wounded on the 20th of July near Atlanta...back with his regt...Sherwood Grun was killed at Atlanta...'' He then continues with happier news of other soldiers, ''...It gives me pleasure...to tell about the boys of the neighborhood...doing well...'' Minor chipping to single 7.75'' x 8.25'' sheet, else very good.
