Excellent ''John C. Fremont / Los Angeles Cal. 1888'' bold, clear signature. Known as ''the Pathfinder,'' Fremont explored the American west, most famously in his Oregon Trail expedition. Prominent in conquering California during the Mexican War, Fremont was appointed military Governor of California by R.F. Stockton. He later fought in the Civil War as a leader known for his impetuous decisions. Signature on small card measures 4'' x 2.25'' with some minor toning and foxing. Near fine condition.
