Isaac Newton Arnold autograph letter signed as auditor of the Treasury to President Andrew Johnson. On official stationery dated 15 February 1866, the year Arnold left Washington, the letter reads in part: ''...I...recommend Champlin H. Spencer Esq...as a suitable person for US Dist. Atty. for that Territory. He is a good lawyer, & in every way a most respectable and reliable man. I believe by appointing him the Government would secure an efficient & faithful officer...Isaac N. Arnold''. Countersigned by J.M. Goodwin. 2pp. on card-style stationery measures 7.75'' x 10''. Mild toning with some separation to crease at bottom left. Very good.
