David Porter signed Naval document as Superintendent and President of the U.S. Naval Academy. Dated 2 June 1868, it certifies that Charles T. Forse graduated from the Academy. David Porter hails from a line of Porter men who served with supreme distinction in the U.S. Navy. David Porter famously ran his fleet through the gauntlet at Vicksburg during the Civil War and also made significant improvements to the Naval Academy as Superintendent after the war. An orange U.S. Naval Academy seal is affixed to the bottom half. Single page document measures 18'' x 23''. Mild toning and staining. In very good condition.
