General George McClellan autograph letter signed. Twenty years after running against Abraham Lincoln in the 1864 presidential race, the Civil War General writes to General Horatio G. Hix in this letter dated 21 October 1884. He appears to decline participation in the Cleveland Presidential campaign. It reads: ''My dear General...Few things would gratify me more than to please you, but unhappily the pressure upon me is so great at this time that I cannot see my way clear to doing as you request...my urgent affairs do occupy my time and head as to make it impossible for me to throw myself into this campaign...I am convinced that Gr Cleveland will be the next President...Genl McClellan''. 3pp. letter on a single sheet of card style stationery measures 4.5'' x 7''. Toning, creasing, and light foxing and staining. Very good.
