First edition of James Whitcomb Riley's ''Songs of Summer'' poetry collection, with black and white illustrations throughout. As a late 19th century poet, Riley amassed an uncommon level of fame in his career, becoming known as the ''Hoosier Poet'' in his performances around the country, as many of his poems were written in a Midwestern dialect. Bobbs-Merrill Co.: Indianapolis: 1908. 190pp. book measures 5.5'' x 7.75'' in original green binding with gilt decoration to cover. Head and tail of spine are mildly bumped; pages lightly toned with with former owner's names written on front pastedown and endpapers. Very good.
