Fantastic H.L. Mencken typed letter signed. The American satirist writes to Native American rights advocate Lester Hargrett, dating his letter 12 June 1946. The so-called ''Sage of Baltimore'' lives up to his reputation as a acerbic satirist with this wry message on his personal Baltimore stationery. It reads in full: ''Civicly is superb, and I am delighted to have it. For some time past, by the way, I have been preparing to propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United States providing the death penalty for all civic-minded people. The country has suffered from them long enough.'' 1pp. with envelope. Measures 8.5'' x 5.5''. Creasing, else fine.
