Oliver Wendell Holmes autograph letter signed. The doctor and poet writes this intimate letter to a fan on 12 September 1877 from Boston. In part: ''My dear Young Lady...A writer finds comfort and support in the messages which...make him feel that he has lived...young ladies especially, have told me they went through [the process] of making up their minds to write to the author...I...hope that you will see as many twenty-ninths of August [his birthday] as I have already seen, and if there are not as many as you want a dozen or so more, which I think will give you as much of this planet as you will care for...Oliver Wendell Holmes''. 2pp. letter on card-style stationery measures 4.5'' x 5.75''. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 7.25'' x 9'' with a notation to mount that reads: ''Written to Charlotte Carolyn Jenkins...'' Toning and creasing to letter and mount, with a section of paper loss to lower left of mount, else very good.
