Ludwig Bemelmans signs his beloved ''Madeline,'' adding a gorgeous, colorful Christmas sketch to the half-title page. Published by Simon & Schuster: New York: 1939, later edition. Upon the half-title page, he draws Madeline, a nun and an angel around a Christmas tree glowing with candles. Below is an inscription reading: ''For the Chief from his Godfather Ludwig / Dec 1954''. Minor soiling to book with printed boards measuring 8.75'' x 12''. Original dustjacket shows chipping to edges. Overall very good. A rare find for fans of the children's classic.
