Broadside issued by Parliament during the Third English Civil War in which Thomas Lord Fairfax renounces his loyalty to King Charles, who was executed a month prior. Fairfax, a member of the Counsel of State, proclaims his allegiance to the Commonwealth in this broadside, dated 20 February 1649. It reads in part: ''...in Maintenance and Defence of their Resolutions concerning the setling the Government of this Nation for future, in the way of a Republique, without a King or House of Peers...'' Measures 8.75'' x 10.75''. Toning with a vertical scratch and slightly irregularly trimmed edges. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.25'' x 18.25''. Very good.
