John Tyler signs a land grant, dated 16 September 1826, for James Devor of Wythe County. Tyler grants Devor, a justice of the peace, 231 acres and signs, ''John Tyler''. After his two years as Governor, Tyler, who had been a U.S. Representative for five years, returned to the U.S. Congress, this time serving the Commonwealth in the Senate. The single page 11.5'' x 14.5'' document bears an intact paper seal. Light toning and soiling, else near fine.
