William McKinley typed letter signed as Governor of Ohio. On 7 December 1892, upon State of Ohio stationery, he writes to Republican official Cornelius Bliss. In full: ''I am very glad to learn that the Tariff League is to continue its work. It has been of great service in the past and it has greater opportunities for the future; and its cooperation was never so much needed as now. Do not relax in a single particular. The cause is worthy of your best efforts, and the approval of the people is sure to come...[signed] Wm McKinley Jr.'' McKinley offered the Vice Presidency to Bliss but he declined and Theodore Roosevelt succeeded to office when McKinley was assassinated. Single-page letter measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Notations to verso and slight smudging to ink, else near fine.
