Abraham Lincoln document signed as President. Dated 9 September 1861, Lincoln signs at the conclusion with his full name, ''Abraham Lincoln''. In so doing he makes effective Charles O. Wood's appointment to the position of Second Lieutenant in the Ninth Regiment of Infantry. Wood was part of the distinguished Wood military family and led forces to stop the New York Draft Riots. A green War Office seal is affixed to the upper left. Partially-printed document measures 15.5'' x 19''. Rippling and creasing, else near fine.
