Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed, with original envelope also signed by Eisenhower. He writes to his wife, Mamie, dating the letter 27 September [1943]. Upon Allied Force Headquarters / Office of the Commander-in-Chief stationery, it reads: ''...The date given above is a mere guess on my part - but it's Monday, and counting back on my fingers to Sept. 8, I think I am correct. Yesterday I had a long, typewritten V-mail from [son] Johnny. It arrived here in exactly 2 weeks. His morale seems to be good but said 'first class year [at West Point] is not the deadbeat it was when you were here!!' I think he is right, at that....My life is a mixture of politics & war. The latter is bad enough - but I've been trained for it! The former is straight & unadulterated venom! - But I have to devote lots of my time, and much more of my good disposition, to it...Loads of love - Always / Ike''. Includes original mailing envelope signed ''Dwight D Eisenhower'' and postmarked 4 October 1943. Single-page letter measures 8'' x 10.5''. Creasing, else near fine.
