Calvin Coolidge typed letter signed as President, dated 7 November 1923. Coolidge, who had just become President in August of that year after Warren Harding's death, thanks James Norwood, ''an old veteran'', for a gourd. The letter reads in part, ''...I sincerely appreciate this remembrance. Among the many gifts which have come from every part of the Union this one is unique...'' The new President signs, ''Calvin Coolidge''. Minor soiling and dampstaining to 7'' x 9'' single page letter on White House stationery. Moderate soiling to accompanying 7'' x 5'' White House envelope, postmarked in Washington, D.C. on 7 November and bearing a 2-cent stamp with Harding's likeness. Overall very good.
