John Barrymore typed letter signed. Dated 11 August 1937, the letter serves as a contract between the actor and Paramount concerning Barrymore's top billing in an upcoming film. It reads in part: ''Dear Mr. Barrymore: With reference to the agreement between us...covering your services in the role of 'Dr. Ernest Tindal' in our photoplay tentatively entitled 'City Hall Scandal', it is hereby agreed that your name will be the first featured name on the main or credit titles of the film, in all advertising...your name shall appear in type of a size larger than that used to display the name of any other in the cast...'' Signed ''John Barrymore'' as the artist, and also by a Paramount representative. 1pp. measures 8.5'' x 11''. Creasing and punch holes to top edge, else near fine.
