Civil War letter from Benjamin T. Wright of the 10th Connecticut Infantry. Written in pencil, undated letter reads in part: ''...Sunday Morning / Last night between ten and eleven General Foster's boat, the John Farmer, came along side and took...12 Marines and 30 of our company. They intended to take all Marines but found they had no carbines...They took two day's rathions. Captain Nely went with them. They have probably gone on a reconnaissance toward Charleston. I would like to have gone with them but they only wanted one officer so I had to stay back. Yours in haste, Benjamin.'' The 10th Connecticut Infantry was engaged at Roanoke Island, Newborn, Morris Island, Charleston and Drewry's Bluff. Wright mustered into Company I on 9 October 1861 and mustered out on 17 October 1864 as a First Lieutenant. Single page letter measures 5'' x 8''. Fine condition.
