White House gavel, made of wood collected from the White House during its 1950 renovation when much of its interior was reconstructed. Gavel features the official restoration plaque reading, ''Original White House Material / Removed in 1950'', with the Great Seal of the United States at center. Written along the handle is the name of its previous owner, ''Ray J. Madden M.C.'', a World War I veteran and Indiana Congressman who served as Chair of the U.S. House Rules Committee, likely where this gavel was used. Measures approximately 11.25'' x 3.375''. A few minor scuffs and nicks, overall in very good condition.
