John Steinbeck typed postcard signed ''J.S.'', composed to his typist Mary Morgan. On his personal postcard, with his Sag Harbor, New York postal address at top, Steinbeck cajoles Morgan into working on ''Arthur'', i.e., ''The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights'', which was published posthumously in 1976.
Dated 22 July 1958, letter reads in full, ''Dear Mary: Stop jittering! Youn [sic] want to work on the Arthur - I want you to work on the Arthur - where is the proble[m] that's an 'm' that went off the page. There is no hurry. I'm going to be on this for a long time. I'll just accumulate translated pages and when you are ready in the fall, there will be a back log. It is going slowly now but probably will speed up later. But believe me, there is no hurry, and as far as I am concerned you are the one to do that job, and others. -- des queldes t'entendes [of those you understand]. J.S.'' Measures 5.5'' x 3.25''. Minor abrasion along left side, overall near fine.
