Collection of six autograph letters signed by John Gotti, written during the late 1990s when he was serving time in prison for crimes committed as boss of the Gambino crime family. All letters are written inside cards, addressed to his wife's sister, Marylou DiGiorgio, and usually signed ''Johnny!'' All are additionally signed on the return address panel of the envelopes, ''Gotti'' along with his prison number.
In one letter, postmarked 3 June 1997, Gotti writes about the tell-all book ''Underboss'', based on the life of Sammy ''The Bull'' Gravano, who became an FBI informant and broke the Cosa Nostra mafia code of honor. Gotti writes, ''...As for me, I feel Great! I know I've been remiss with my writing - But, I do have a [sic] excuse - I was in a sour mood to put it lightly - I've been waiting patiently for people to rebut and expose that lying Pricks Book and interview and show the fag that he was. But its obvious that the lawyers and others are cripples - and my wait would be a long one! Now what is your and Johnnys excuse? In any event, I hope everything is well at home and that your Mothers Day was what you wished...Love and miss you. Love, Johnny!''
In another letter, postmarked 21 July 1997, Gotti writes, ''...As for me, I feel Great! I just wanted you to know that as always you're in my thoughts. I hope your trip down south was pleasant if in fact you went. Marylou, as you know I'm an Autumn and Winter person, but there were certain things - Boating, Bar-be-cues by the pool - that had me looking forward to summer even if to a lesser degree. But, after 8 summers in 'this sauna,' I more now than ever appreciate the Winter, snow and a cozy fireplace!...you're in my thoughts and to send much Love to you and the Gang - Miss you. Love, Johnny''.
In other letters, Gotti reminisces about warm fires during the winter, complains about it being ''hot and sticky'', and proclaims ''I feel Great!'', apparently adapting well to his time inside prison. In each card he sends love and well wishes to his extended family. Cards measure 7.125'' x 5''. Tears to envelopes, not affecting writing, overall in very good plus condition.
