Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed ''H'' in type with Thompson circling his initial, composed 24 November 1968 on his custom Owl Farm stationery. Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin, asking for money to cover his bills, ostensibly still waiting for funds from the sale of ''Hell's Angels'' to come in. Letter reads in part,

''Dear Afro......Are you fat? If so, I need $100 at once, to save my local image (ie: Credit)...The problem is too involved to explain -- but I'll be in NY on the weekend of Dec 7 (on a check-kiting gig) and I'll try to give you details then. The problem in a nut is that I can get money to travel, but none to pay my rent -- at least until January. So I have to go live in a hotel somewhere, on my Diner's Club card, in order to get money to pay my local bills and stall the Diners club. Unfortunately, I ran onto a time-lag, and cash at once is the only answer. Send it if you can. If not, don't sweat it...H''. Single page measures 8.5'' x 11''. Light toning and folds, overall near fine condition.
