Harper Lee autograph letter signed, composed within a humorous card of a dancing banana, and also including the original handwritten envelope with Lee's initials, ''N.H.L.'' Writing from her home in New York City on 22 June 2002, Lee writes to her friend Tammy Rovell in Monroeville, Alabama about traveling throughout the United States. Letter reads in full:
''Kid: If you get to my age, you will be the same way - can't for the life of me remember if I answered your last good letter. Think not, but on the other hand, fully intended to.
Since it came, however, I've been to California & back via train, which was like The Odyssey, that is, full of adventure. I wanted to get a look at our country and did, in the big observation cars. Fires all through N.M. and Arizona that blackened the sky.
Went out to inspect my namesake's new little sister and visit with her grandparents. Wonderful time, of course, & treated like royalty. See you before summer's over! / Love - Nelle''.
Card measures 4.125'' x 6.25''. Very good to near fine condition.
