Hannibal Hamlin autograph letter signed as Vice President under Abraham Lincoln from 1861-1864. A strong abolitionist, Hamlin was replaced by Andrew Johnson on the 1864 ticket in order to appeal to Democrat leaning voters. Dated 28 December 1864, Hamlin writes to an individual possibly by the name of W.C. Crosley, discussing a bankruptcy law and mentioning a man by the name of Rice, whom Hamlin doesn't ''want to be forced into a collision with''. Two-page letter on bifolium stationery measures 5'' x 8''. Small split at horizontal fold, very good condition. Accompanied by an oversized CDV of Hamlin measuring 3.25'' x 5''. Minor spotting and silvering to image, overall very good.
