General Ambrose Burnside signed CDV portrait taken by Mathew Brady during the Civil War. Adorned in his military uniform, Burnside signs along the lower margin, ''AE Burnside - Genl''. Burnside excelled early in the war and was given command of the Army of the Potomac, one of only five Generals to hold the position. However, his admitted lack of military training revealed itself and he was soon replaced by General Joseph Hooker. Burnside also invented the Burnside carbine cavalry rifle and served as Governor of Rhode Island. CDV measures 2.5'' x 4.125''. Minor edge wear, overall very good condition. With JSA COA.
