Frederick Douglass deed signed in his position as Recorder of Deeds for Washington, DC. Douglass signs the docketing on verso, ''Fred'k Douglass'' for a release enacted in 1884. After the Civil War, Republican Presidents appointed Douglass to various government positions including Recorder of Deeds as well as Minister and Consul General to Haiti. Document measures approximately 14'' x 8.5'' unfolded. Light wear and toning, overall in very good plus condition.
