Franklin D. Roosevelt typed letter signed ''FDR'', dated 8 July 1927 a year after the launch of the polio treatment center at Warm Springs, with interesting content on running the center. Roosevelt writes to his physical therapist Helena Mahoney, who developed the treatment protocol at Warm Springs alongside Dr. Leroy Hubbard. On Roosevelt's custom business stationery, letter reads in part, ''...glad...to hear that you and Dr. Hubbard are putting your foot down on patients dashing around the country in automobiles. / Don't forget that it was inevitable that the big family spirit of 1926 when we only had a handful of people, had to be superseded by far stricter rules and regulations as soon as we increased in size...I am writing Dr. Hubbard that if he wants the cottage next to yours for the physiotherapists, the clerks must be immediately moved from there into the hotel. / I stopped at the hospital yesterday and Dr. Allen says that Missy [LeHand] is getting on remarkably well and has been moved to the convalescent wing and he seemed very much encouraged in every way. I hope to be able to see her the end of next week...[signed] FDR''. Single page letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Folds with one touching top edge of signature, overall near fine.
