Frank Thorne painting of ''Red Sonja'', the superheroine that he brought to life during the 1970s. Signed by Thorne and dated 1976, painting was completed shortly after Thorne first drew her for ''Marvel Feature'' in January 1976. Thorne would go on to be the principal artist for the solo ''Red Sonja'' comic book from 1977-79. Large painting measures 41'' x 60'', completed on wood in gouache and marker with some pencil outlining. The painting hung in the hallway to Thorne's studio for 45 years until his passing in 2021. Painting is very well preserved with only minor soiling. Near fine condition. Consigned by the Thorne estate and with an LOA from Thorne's daughter.
