First edition, first printing of ''Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism''. New York: Works Publishing Company, 1939. One of just approximately 1,900 surviving copies from the 4,860 first printed in April of 1939, before becoming one of the most influential books of the 20th century. All first printing points are present: Half-title page is followed by the title page and pages v-viii, with another half-title page before the text begins; complete text is followed by three blank leaves. Runs 400pp. and measures 6.25'' x 9.25'' x 2'' thick, bound in original red cloth boards with gilt lettering. Light discoloration and wear to boards, with front free endpaper lightly pulling away. Previous owner's name on front pastedown, with a note regarding the edition on the front free endpaper, and a few blind-stamps from previous owner on beginning and end pages. Overall in attractive, very good condition.
