Very rare Jules Rimet World Cup trophy presented to one of the referees in 1966. FIFA-issued trophy features the figure of Nike, the winged Grecian victory goddess, holding a decagonal cup overhead. In contrast to designer Abel Lafleur's original double-sided 1930 model, this trophy is a sculpture in the round, showing a rear view of the wings on reverse side. Nike figure is rendered here in metal painted in luminous gold, and the square base is composed of shimmering white marble. A brass plaque to the front of the pedestal is engraved, ''Presented by / THE FOOTBALL / ASSOCIATION / to mark the / winning of the / WORLD CUP 1966''. Award features a green felt backing to the underside of the base. Measures 8'' in total height and 3.75'' across at the widest point of Nike's wingspan. Weighs 1 pound, 13 ounces. Minor cracking to finish. Overall near fine.
