Eleanor Roosevelt typed letter signed as First Lady, upon White House stationery dated 22 January 1940. Roosevelt writes to Mrs. Charles Edison regarding the American Youth Congress, who were visiting Washington D.C. the following month. In part, ''...This will bring young people from all over the country...I think it is important that they feel we are interested, even though undoubtedly they believe in some things with which we do not agree...I wonder if you would be interested in taking in some young people and giving them a bed and breakfast during these days...[signed] Eleanor Roosevelt''. Single page measures 6'' x 9.25''. A draft response is penciled in shorthand underneath Roosevelt's signature and upon the verso. Folds and light wear, overall very good condition.
