Maverick Republican Congresswoman Clare Boothe Luce typed letter signed regarding the 1939 Palestine White Paper. Dated 21 February 1944 on U.S. Congressional letterhead, Luce writes to a Mrs. Abraham Apsel as the five year period for Jewish immigration to Palestine - as outlined in the White Paper - was nearing its end. Luce writes in part, ''...concerning the Palestine White Paper. / I am, of course, most sympathetic with your position and have repeatedly stated in public my views on this matter. My position today remains unchanged. When the Resolution reaches the Floor of the House, I will give it proper consideration...[signed] Clare Boothe Luce''. Present at the liberation of concentration camps at the end of WWII, Luce was a strong supporter of Jewish immigration to Israel. Letter measures 8'' x 10.5'', accompanied by original envelope. Folds and light toning, overall near fine.
