Civil War Captain Joseph Prime of the 13th New Hampshire Infantry, autograph letter signed dated 30 November 1862. Prime writes to his wife and mentions the first casualty of the Civil War, ''...I went down to see the Marshall House where Col E. E. Ellsworth was killed. It is one of the shabbiest looking houses that there is in Alexandria...Joseph''. Prime was later wounded at Petersburg. 5'' x 8'' card-style letter on Thirteenth New Hampshire Volunteers letterhead has some light toning and soiling spots, else near fine.
