Rare signature by the leader of Free France, Charles de Gaulle signed first U.S. edition of volume III of his memoirs, ''The War Memoirs Of Charles De Gaulle: Salvation 1944-1946''. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1960, translated from the French by Richard Howard. De Gaulle inscribes the front free endpaper in blue ballpoint, dated 1970 and signed ''C. de Gaulle.'' In this volume, de Gaulle describes the victorious liberation of France from the Axis powers and the subsequent difficulties of rebuilding France. It's said that modern France cannot be understood until one reads this particular volume of de Gaulle's Memoirs. Book measures 5.75'' x 8.5'' and runs 346pp. Housed in original dust jacket; light chipping, overall very good. Separation starting along front hinge, else near fine.
