First edition, first impression of Charles Dickens' classic work, ''Oliver Twist'', including the rare ''Fireside'' plate that Dickens had replaced in the second impression. London: Richard Bentley, 1838. Published in three volumes, with ''Boz'' listed as the author on the title page of each as required for the first impression, and with ''Fireside'' as the last plate in volume III, opposite page 313. Also with ''pilaster'' appearing twice on page 164 of the third volume. With all 24 plates by George Cruikshank present. Bound in contemporary black calf over marbled boards with gilt and maroon embellishments to spine. Some rubbing to boards, previous owner's bookplate to front pastedowns. Separation starting to front hinge of volume I and tear to page 45. Foxing to engravings. Overall in very good condition.
