Charles Darwin autograph letter signed with his full name ''Charles R. Darwin'', unusual in that almost all of Darwin's letters are signed with his abbreviated first name. Dated 17 February (1861 as docketed), Darwin writes from his home in Down Bromley Kent to his financial advisor, just as the concept of ''Darwinism'' was sweeping over the world. Letter reads in full, ''Dear Sir / I am much obliged for you letter. I still feel almost sure that some communication [?] between Mr. F. Burd & myself about five years ago about a prolonged period of agreement; & as this period had expired it seemed to me prudent to consult you on the subject & at the same time about the rate of interest. I had no wish or intention for my Trustees to call in the sum on mortgage. - Mr. F. Burd has never asked me to release the interest: had they done so, I should have contacted you. - I am sorry to hear that you have been suffering from so painful a disorder as erysipelas. With my best thanks for your advice, I remain / Dear Sir / yours faithfully & obliged / Charles R. Darwin''. Two page letter on card-style bifolium paper measures 5'' x 8'' as folded. Small hole in center of leaf not affecting text, folds and light wear. Overall in very good condition, boldly penned by Darwin.
