Poignant World War II letter from a prisoner at the Buchenwald concentration camp, postmarked 5 March 1941 on accompanying envelope. Letter is addressed to his wife in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, part of Czechoslovakia before the Munich Agreement ceded the land to the Nazis. Letter reads in full, ''My very dearest L., I would like it best if I could wish you [all the best] for your 48 years in person. But my written wishes are coming from the heart as well. May spring bring you only beauty and fulfill all your hopes in health and contentment. I am very glad that my guy [his son] is reasonable again; that is how it shall always be and that is how it must remain. After all, he should act as an adult and should be helpful to you, who loves him more than herself, be of service to you and create only pleasant situations. And also give some thoughts to his future occupation and the rest of his life. - Your letter of 3/4 is here. Through your eyes, I am able to see everything at home: house, farm - surroundings - as closely as I can see my own hand. But please, do not be nervous and sad! Patience! Very satisfied with the contents of the February package. (Braided yeast bread!) It shall last me another 14 days. Therefore, use the attached label for the April package later. I will let you know. Today you are probably at Mother's. I remember. I am always healthy. My greetings to all of you, my dearest ones. Kisses. Your F.''. Letter measures 8.25'' x 11.5'' unfolded; envelope measures 6.75'' x 4.75'', postmarked from Weimar, Germany where the Buchenwald camp was located, near the Czechoslovakia border. Light wear and toning, overall in very good condition.
