Apollo 11 crew signed ''Apollo Achievement Award'' given to NASA Administrator Thomas O. Paine, under whose guidance Apollo 11 launched and the vision of President John F. Kennedy's mission was brought to fruition. Paine was recruited for the position of NASA Administrator by President Lyndon Johnson in the wake of the the Apollo 1 fire, with the goal of fulfilling President Kennedy's vision of putting a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. This award serves as witness to Paine's success, reading in part, ''An appreciation of dedicated service to the nation...culminating in Apollo 11's successful achievement of man's first landing on the moon, July 20, 1969.'' Signed in Houston by Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. Award measures 14'' x 11'', with gilt embellishments and NASA seal at lower left. Mounted to board as issued. Some fading to Armstrong and Collins' signatures, and mild toning, else near fine condition. With Steve Zarelli COAs for all signatures.
