Andrew Johnson document signed as President, appointing Robert R. Congdon as Collector of Customs for the District of Georgetown, South Carolina. Document is dated 19 March 1867, just days after Congress passed the Tenure of Office Act against Johnson's veto, which would culminate in impeachment proceedings against the President the following year. Boldly signed ''Andrew Johnson'' at lower right, countersigned by Treasury Secretary Hugh McCulloch. Document measures 17'' x 14'', mounted to slightly larger mat. Light wear and toning, overall very good condition.
