William Moultrie, American Revolutionary War General who heroically defended Charleston, South Carolina, here signs an autograph note, dated 29 April 1793. He writes a money order to Will Hort in full: ''Sir, Pay to May Hamilton twenty pounds from the contingent fund for the uses of Fort Johnson. Will Moultrie.'' Fort Johnson was one of the Forts the General used in defending Charleston, along with Fort Moultrie, named in his honor. Toned page measures 8'' x 6.5'' with some chipping and partial separation at the fold. Some notes and paper residue on verso from previous mounting.
