Civil War magic lantern slide, showing a distinguished portrait of President Abraham Lincoln in tuxedo, taken by Alexander Gardner in 1863. Slide is identified as from the New York State Educational Department, originally from the collection of Frederick Hill Meserve who gathered hundreds of war-time images in the late 19th century. Glass slide measures 4'' x 3.25'', cased in period metal. Small amount of crackling to image at edges, but photograph of Lincoln himself is near fine. Overall very good condition.
