Attractive map published in 1761 in the uncommon first state, titled ''A New Map of North America from the Latest Discoveries'', engraved by J. Spilsbury. London: Printed for R. Baldwin, 1761. In this map published shortly before the American Revolution, numerous treaty and charter boundaries are shown, extending up to James Bay in the north, Florida in the south and Louisiana in the west. With a high level of intriguing detail, including settlements, forts, Native-American villages, and tribal territory. Sheet measures approximately 16'' x 12.25'', with decorative title cartouche at lower right, and rose compass. Shadowing from folds, some browning to edges, and two-inch triangular closed tear at right center. Very good condition.
