Woodrow Wilson military commission signed as President, appointing Charles D. Sniflin as first lieutenant in the National Guard of Washington, D.C. Document is dated 6 August 1915, three months after Germany broke international law and sunk the Lusitania; despite Wilson's desire to keep America neutral ''in thought and deed'', Americans were increasingly turning against Germany and ramping up for war. Signed ''Woodrow Wilson'' at bottom right, and with fully intact War Office seal at lower left. Document measures 16'' x 20''. Light soiling and creasing, overall very good condition.
