First edition, first printing of Ernest Hemingway's novel ''The Old Man and the Sea,'' published by Charles Scribner's Sons: New York: 1952. The publisher's stamp and letter ''A'' appear on the copyright page. Unclipped dustjacket is also a first issue. Hemingway's tale about an old Cuban fisherman who engages in a violent battle to conquer a giant Marlin in the Gulf Stream earned the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. Bound in sky blue fabric boards with blind stamped front board and silver lettering to the spine. Mild toning around board perimeters and wear to board corners and spine ends. Prior owner's name inscribed to the front free endpaper, else fine. Toning to dustjacket especially at edges and surface loss to the paper at the front hinge and spine ends, else fine.
